Beauty Tip of the Day!

Sleep…

We’ve all heard of getting your beauty rest. Now science is proving that the beauty sleep concept is no myth!

People deprived of sleep for long periods appear less attractive and more unhealthy than those who are well rested, say researchers.

Many of the body’s cells also show increased production and reduced breakdown of proteins during deep sleep. Since proteins are the building blocks needed for cell growth and for repair of damage from factors like stress and ultraviolet rays, deep sleep may truly be “beauty sleep.”

Increased growth hormone release is believed to be linked to the fasting state which develops in human sleep. There is some evidence that skin cells regenerate faster at night than during the day. Cell division happens throughout the day, but peaks around 2 am. This is literally renewal and rejuvenation during sleep. The peak in cell division happens even if you stay awake at night, while the surge in growth hormone doesn’t.

Having trouble getting your beauty sleep?

Here are some tips:

1) No caffeine at least 6 hours before bed. (Ideally 12 hours)

2) Eat right, sleep tight. Try not to go to bed hungry, but avoid heavy meals before bedtime. An over-full belly can keep you up.

3) Keep your bedroom quiet, dark, and comfortable.

4) Avoid watching TV, eating, and discussing emotional issues in bed. The bed should be used for sleep and sex only. If not, you can end up associating the bed with distracting activities that could make it difficult for you to fall asleep.

5) Use natural sleep remedies. Here are some to check out:

Best Rest Formula

Calms Forte

Melatonin
